Gasoline Prices in Germany

April 18th, 2008 by Füchsin · 2 Comments

The photo shows today’s actual prices of gasoline in Germany (in my town)

The prices are per liter (not per gallon)
1 gallon = 3.78 Liter
that means: the prices above are for 0.26 gallon each.

That means: 1 gallon of unleaded gasoline in Germany costs 5.55 Euro = US$ 8.73 as of today.

The price includes 60 % (!) taxes:

  • mineral oil tax (0.501 Euro)
  • eco-tax (0.154 Euro, includes extra for mandatory admixtion of bio-fuel)
  • sales tax (19% on the sum - really! The taxes are taxed, too..)

I thought, maybe this is interesting for our readers from abroad?

    60% taxes…our friends, the ecologists…
What Dennis said about eco-fuel was also interesting: a tankful of that is the equivalent of some 250 kg of corn, or something like that (what would feed a kid for a whole year).
Bill O’Reilly is in favour of ethanol, but I’m not so sure anymore
