A guy named Gerald Flurry from www.thetrumpet.com has an interesting piece about the fall of the Roman Empire:
I’ve heard Dennis say something similar (the civilizations are not destroyed, they commit suicide).
This guy identifies five reasons for the decline of Rome, and what we can learn from it (actually it’s from The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire, by Edward Gibbons):
- the breakdown of the family
- increased taxation
- an insatiable craving for pleasure
- an unsustainable buildup of armaments
- the decay of religion
I think this guy has a point!
